Man O War on bicycles

We are really enjoying Man O War.......since it's a dry island, it's a very peaceful place to hang out.  There are no cars, just golf carts, bicycles, and an occasional moped.  No bars, no loud music, just a nice place to chill for awhile.

Yesterday morning, we rode our bikes from end to end and all throughout the island.  Here are a few pics from Tuesday and Wednesday :)

Lots of large rays swim by!

I never tire of seeing these guys swimming around the boat.  I think I saw an albino turtle on the far side of this anchorage!

Perfect Bahamian getaway on the shore of Eastern Harbor

I believe I mentioned in an earlier post that Man O War is the boat-building capital of the Bahamas.  There are some very pretty sights here.

Albury's Harbor Store, with a convenient dock

House on the harbor

Beautiful vessels

The street dead ends into the beach (Atlantic)......no curb, no warning.

The school's baseball diamond sits on the Atlantic Ocean

We think this is two trees twisted together.....one looks like a giant Christmas cactus!

Bright flowers everywhere you turn

We rode Queen's Highway from one end of the island to the other.  This is a portion of the "highway" that is sand :)

The Low Point......in stormy weather, the Atlantic (right) comes right over this spit of land and splits the island in two.  Here, the highway is coral rock with patches of cement.

Conch shells are everywhere

Queen's Highway ends at a large estate

Some of the highway is paved with crushed coral rock.  The section in town is paved in concrete.

We treated ourselves to a late lunch at the Dock and Dine after our ride.  We highly recommend their daily specials!

Last night we played cribbage for 4+(!) hours.....and I finally get it!  The concept and scoring is not something my brain easily grasps, but it was fun and I actually won one game :)  After that, we laid on the foredeck and marveled at the stars.  Saw the International Space Station go by, too.  It was a really great day.
